The Water/Sewer Department
maintains and constructs or contracts all water and sewer
facilities within the City. Responsibilities include
operation and maintenance of the City's water reservoirs,
lines, pumps, hydrants, lift stations, booster stations,
and purification equipment. In addition, the sewage
treatment plant and sewer lines are dealt with by this
department and laboratory testing of wastewater and
specified ground water is conducted for the City of
Colville and, on a fee basis, for three other cities.
The Water/Sewer Department works
with builders in the addition of new construction,
maintains meters and provides meter readings for billing
on a monthly basis, and is responsible for delinquent
account collections.
The Water/Sewer Department is
required to be certified in all areas mandated by City,
State and Federal regulatory agencies, which pertain to
water and sewer functions. It is the Water/Sewer
Department's responsibility to ascertain that the City
remains in compliance with all government agency
requirements.
The Water/Sewer
Superintendent works with the Engineering Department and
consulting firms in the preparation of studies, designs
standards, plans and specifications, property descriptions
and inspection
services, and provides field engineering services, survey
work, grant writing and record keeping. The Water
Department is also available for building and pool
maintenance for the City's Recreation Department and other
departments as directed by the Mayor.
